Super Knitters!
Every year there are unsung heroes around the country who spend hours knitting for the Christmas Shoebox Appeal, and 2021 has been no different!
Their amazing creations are adored by children affected by poverty in countries across Africa and Eastern Europe when they arrive into their hands in their Christmas Shoebox.
Our knitters range from beginners to the highly skilled and we see everything from scarves to intricate dolls outfits complete with knitted accessories.
We know that every single one makes a difference to the child who receives it and it is especially these handmade items that communicate how much love goes into each shoebox.
Knitted and crocheted items have always been a big part of the Christmas Shoebox Appeal but we have seen a huge increase in people asking us for patterns since COVID became a part of our lives. People who are spending more time at home are looking for new ways to make a difference. We are all looking for purpose and to be productive with our time and some people use this time so incredibly selflessly.
Every time we get a shoebox with a knitted teddy or receive a box of hand knitted hats we get to meet another person with a huge heart for the children who will receive it. It is truly inspirational.
This year we have received boxes of knitted teddies, knitted handbags, knitted dolls and we have see the most beautiful dressed Barbie dolls.
We even have one knitting team who knit dolls clothes all year round to be put in any box that has an undressed doll!
Every single shoebox is appreciated more than we can ever express and the joy is seen in the smile of every child who receives one.
